Heat pumps: MaPrimeRénov' to end in 2027, what should you do before 31 December?
18 October 2026 · 5 min read · By the Aldeak team

On 15 October 2026, the government announced that air-to-water and geothermal heat pumps would no longer be funded by MaPrimeRénov' from 1 January 2027: only the energy saving bonus would remain. Before signing a quotation in a hurry, here is what is certain, what is not yet, and what we advise.
As at 18 October 2026, this is only an announcement. It appears in the government's press pack of 15 October (the “Électrifions la France !” plan). No decree or order has been published and the 2027 budget is still being debated in Parliament. Nor is it known which date will count for applications made at the end of the year: the quotation, the submission of the application or the invoice.
What the government has announced
At present, a heat pump can combine two grants: the MaPrimeRénov' fixed grant, paid by the Anah (the French national housing agency) after the works, and the energy saving bonus from energy saving certificates (CEE), paid by an energy supplier. From 1 January 2027, air-to-water and geothermal heat pumps would be funded by the CEE scheme alone, with no MaPrimeRénov' top-up. The grant would be awarded before the works, which would remove the processing time of around three months.
The draft 2027 budget, tabled on 1 October, points in the same direction: the Anah would concentrate its reduced resources on whole-house renovations.
What remains valid until 31 December 2026
Since 1 September 2026, MaPrimeRénov' for individual measures funds only a few types of work: air-to-water, geothermal or solar-thermal heat pumps, connection to a heating network, removal of an oil tank, and an energy audit accompanying a measure. Households with higher incomes are not eligible. For an air-to-water heat pump, the fixed grants are as follows:
For geothermal systems, they reach €11,000, €9,000 and €6,000. The eligible expenditure is capped at €12,000 for an air-to-water heat pump and €18,000 for a geothermal system, and the combined MaPrimeRénov' and CEE amount may not exceed 90%, 75% or 60% of this expenditure, depending on income. The application is submitted before the works begin, with a quotation from an RGE-certified contractor.
In 2027, how much with the energy saving bonus alone?
The government announces average support, for an air-to-water heat pump, of €11,500 for a very modest-income household, €8,400 for a modest-income household, €7,650 for an intermediate-income household and €4,200 for higher incomes. These averages are calculated for a 90 m² house in climate zone H1, the coldest. The Gironde, the Landes, the Basque Country and the Charente-Maritime are in zone H2, where the CEE bonus is calculated with a coefficient of 1 instead of 1.2: for the same equipment, it is lower. Finally, since 1 September 2026, the “Coup de pouce Chauffage” (heating boost) bonus has been reserved for State-approved models assembled in Europe; the list was extended in the Journal officiel of 13 October.
Should you hurry? Not necessarily
A heat pump is sized according to the needs of the house. In a house that loses its heat through the roof and walls, it has to be more powerful and costs more. Signing in November for the fixed grant, without looking at the insulation, may cost more over twenty years than the grant brings in.
Insulated loft, recent windows, boiler nearing the end of its life: a MaPrimeRénov' application from November makes sense.
Whole-house renovation is still funded by MaPrimeRénov': insulation and the heat pump are funded together, without combining with the CEE scheme.
No fixed grant today: the energy saving bonus remains your grant, before and after 1 January.
The Anah's budget is also tightening: €351 million was withdrawn from the 2026 allocation on 14 October. For details of the conditions, rates and steps, see what you need to know before applying for MaPrimeRénov'.
Worked example: an air-to-water heat pump, couple on modest incomes
Take, as an example, a couple in the Landes whose reference taxable income is €30,000: they fall into the “modest” category (up to €32,553 for two people outside the Île-de-France region). Their 1990s house, with an insulated loft, is heated by oil. RGE quotation: €14,000 including VAT, installation included. The CEE bonus of €4,000 is used for the example: it varies according to the supplier and the model.
| Heat pump quotation | €14,000 incl. VAT |
| Eligible expenditure (cap) | €12,000 |
| MaPrimeRénov' fixed grant, modest incomes | €4,000 |
| CEE bonus (example) | €4,000 |
| Combined cap: 75% of €12,000 | €9,000 (not reached) |
| Remaining cost | €6,000 |
This remaining cost can be financed by an interest-free eco-loan (éco-prêt à taux zéro), up to €15,000 for a single measure. In 2027, this couple would receive only the CEE bonus: not necessarily less, depending on rates that are not yet known. Only the quotations and your France Rénov' adviser can give the actual amounts.
The steps before 31 December
- Take stock of the insulation; if the house is rated E, F or G, see a France Rénov' adviser.
- Ask for two or three RGE quotations with a sizing study (heat losses room by room, radiator temperature).
- Accept the CEE bonus offer before signing the quotation: if signed afterwards, the bonus is lost.
- Submit the MaPrimeRénov' application on france-renov.gouv.fr, complete and as early as possible.
- Wait for the Anah's approval before starting the works.
Mistakes to avoid
- Giving in to a cold caller invoking “the end of the grants”: telephone canvassing for energy renovation is prohibited.
- Oversizing the heat pump to make up for a poorly insulated house.
- Overlooking the location of the outdoor unit: noise, planning rules, co-ownership.
- Starting the works before approval: the application would not be funded.
How we support you
In the Gironde, the Landes, the Basque Country and the Charente-Maritime, we look at the house before the heating: insulation, joinery, ventilation, then a heat pump sized for the actual needs. For a full renovation of your home, we coordinate all the trades with the grant timetable.

Frequently asked questions
Will heat pumps no longer be funded at all in 2027?
They will: according to the announcement of 15 October 2026, they would still be funded by the energy saving bonus (CEE), awarded before the works. Only the MaPrimeRénov' fixed grant for individual measures would disappear.
Which date will count: the quotation, the application or the invoice?
This is not known: no text had been published as at 18 October 2026. To be on the safe side, aim to have a complete MaPrimeRénov' application submitted well before the end of the year.
Are air-to-air heat pumps affected?
No: they are already not funded by MaPrimeRénov' for individual measures. They may receive a CEE bonus if their seasonal coefficient of performance is at least 3.9.
Is an RGE-certified contractor required?
Yes, for MaPrimeRénov' as well as for the CEE bonus, with a qualification covering the type of heat pump planned (directory on france-renov.gouv.fr).
My house is rated F: what should I do?
Look into a whole-house renovation with a France Rénov' adviser: insulation and heating are funded together, from 10% to 80% of €30,000 to €40,000 excluding VAT of works, depending on income and the number of classes gained.
